With our lives continuing to be pretty busy all engrossed in daily activities, we tend to forget to maintain our bodily machine that each one of us possess. And this is when we start to disturb our body thus welcoming all sorts of diseases.
Today we will look into few common diseases and their symptoms in order to take immediate medical action.
1. ANEMIA:
A disease associated with low level of Hemoglobin in our blood.
What is Hemoglobin?
It is made up of protein called globulin chains that is present in red blood cells and helps to carry oxygen from our lungs to various parts of our body. It also helps in driving carbon dioxide from various tissues back into our lungs.
Hb or Hgb contains iron and also helps in the process of metabolism.
Causes of anemia could be due to Gastrointestinal blood loss (when suffering from ulcers or colon cancer), Kidney problems, Blood loss (due to surgery), RBC (Red Blood Cell) synthesis issues like bone marrow disorders, genetic disorders like sickle cell anemia, Bone marrow suppression by chemotherapy or radiation exposure.
Symptoms of Anemia:
- Weakness
- Pale skin
- Shortness of breath
- Palpitation
- Chest pain
- Restless legs syndrome
Can there be high levels of Hemoglobin?
Yes, there are people who suffer from high levels of hemoglobin. It causes due to Lung disease (emphysema, COPD), Cancer, Tobacco smoking, Bone marrow disorders (polycythemia vera), Blood doping (to add red blood cells by IV to the bloodstream)

2. HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE:
Before even getting to know the causes of high blood pressure, we will start with blood pressure. Blood pressure measured on the basis of the force with which the blood pushes the blood vessels.
Human heart pumps blood into arteries and carried across our body. High blood pressure is caused due to abnormal flow of blood.
Why does one suffer from high BP?
Several conditions contribute in causing high BP like, smoking, alcohol consumption, being overweight, too much salt in your diet, stress, older age, genetics, and history of high blood pressure in the family, age, genetics, kidney disease, thyroid disorders, and sleep apnea.
Symptoms of High BP:
- Dizziness
- Headaches
- Nosebleeds
- Anxiety
- Shortness of breath

3. FLU:
A common viral disease that spreads when the patient sneezes or coughs. It will trouble you to the extent that you really give up and just lie in the bed for hours together.

Symptoms of Flu:
- High body temperature of 38 °C (100 °F) or above
- Weakness
- Feeling tired
- Headache
- Pain in body
- Dry cough
- Runny nose (sometimes)
- Sneezing
- Sore throat
Solution:
The best solution is to rest at home and stay warm and drink lots of water and any form of fluid like soup, juice, lentil soups etc. And yes take paracetamol or any other medicine only when the doctor prescribes.
Stay off work and take rest until you feel better.
If after treatment you don’t see any improvement even after a week, please go for a vast check up as suggested by your doctor.
Precautions:
- Stay away from patients suffering from flu specially if they sneeze and cough a lot. Ask the patient to use tissues to prevent spreading of virus. Dispose the tissues immediately in a dustbin.
- Keep the patient in clean environment. Wash their used clothes daily without getting yourself exposed to these. So, you may want to use disposable gloves, especially if you are a pregnant mother or have got kids around you.
- Maintain a clean house by cleaning every possible surface like laptop, fridge, kitchen platform, TV, Doors, telephone etc.
4. ACNE
This is another skin problem that many of us have been trying to get rid of right from the school days. Many of us changed our lifestyle and could get of it, while many could not even after changes or even trying medicines.

The acne is a skin complaint typically known by area of blackheads, pimples, greasy skin and even scarring. The outcome from acne really annoys and depresses every one. I very well understand as I still get these once a month and they disappear by itself.
Your genetics contributes up to 80% as the cause for these acnes. They occur when dead cells and oil from skin block the hair follicles.
Solution:
Visit a skin specialist for treatment of acne. Try lifestyle changes like reduced consumption of simple carbohydrate like sugar. Try to introduce exercise and eat a healthy diet with lots of vegetables and fruits.
5. BACK PAIN:
Growing in numbers these days while we ignore our postures of our body. Its caused right from the nerves, muscles and joints in the spine. There can be other reason such as pancreas, kidney function or gall bladder issues that can also cause back pain.
Back pain can stick around just one point in your body or might move around.

Symptoms of Severe Back Pain:
- Advanced weakness in legs
- Bladder or bowel incontinence (lack of control)
- Associated fever, weight loss
Causes:
There can signs such as other serious medical condition such as spinal fracture, history of cancer, accident that must be attended immediately.
It can be caused due to muscle spasm, muscle strain, disc herniation, osteoarthritis, trauma, infection, and inflammatory disease.
Solution:
Visit a doctor (Orthopedic) to find the root cause of back pain as they might suggest tests that is required to know the reason. Do not take your back pain lightly. It might be due to slip discs as well which needs immediate attention. Improve your postures by following below diagrams:
